It is not just HyperText,
And it is more than HyperMedia.
Technology gives us HyperMultiMedia.

I put this together from a very nice collection of .wrl files found on the www at
http://www.geometrek.com/vrml/spacetrek/index.html
based on some real photographs and data. This area, developed by Michael Wagner, allows you to explore planets, their moons, and more, in accurate 3D detail. The only problem is that, except for simple rotation of the planet or moon, they are shown individually.

Because of my long-standing interest in this, and learning VRML, I decided to try to put the planets into a single scene that shows them all. Here you can see the early development with added motions and viewpoints. The planets and moons are just lined up in an arc along the positive x-axis with distance not to scale, but pretty accurate relative sizes. There are viewpoints to observe the representation of the planets and moons from a fixed point, and a viewpoint "on" each object.
I hope this develops into a nice map that really represents relative motions and scale as well as some feel for the distances involved. For that, we need to dig into the www for some more data. Now I am looking for better orbital time and distance data. I think I have the rotation directions and times reasonably scaled. I have some viewpoint geometry to work out.

I retrieved the best data for this from Bill Arnett at
http://seds.lpl.arizona.edu/nineplanets/nineplanets/nineplanets.html#toc.
and another great data source at:
http://www.solarviews.com/eng/homepage.htm

In fact, at his time, the best way to view this now is to open another browser aimed at on of these pages that text and 2D art to illuminate this hypermultimedia 3D view.
I think I am using the best available art and data for this show and have integrated it better than anywhere else I have seen on the public www. Which planet or moon would you like your Great-Great Grandchildren to call home?

What does HyperMultiMedia mean to the scale of your application?

Let's discuss your application so I can show you how the HyperMultiMedia concept will add to it's success.
